What to do when you have a crash in your motorhome or caravan

The worst has happened and you have had a bump in your beloved home from home!

Follow these simple steps to get you back on the road again.

  1. Safety First – Pull-over to a safe refuge if possible and alert the Emergency medical services if someone is injured and/or the Police, Fire Brigade and Highways Agency if your motorhome or caravan is immovable or in a potentially dangerous location and turn on your hazard lights
  2. To quote Rudyard Kipling “If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs.” Stay calm and composed and remember it’s not the end of the world!
  3. Record the time of the incident and the registration numbers of any other vehicles which are also involved. Collect the contact details of the driver and make a note of how many passengers are involved.
  4. Aim to seek any independent witness’s and their contact details.
  5. Take photos on your phone if it’s safe to do so of the incident location and damage to yours and other vehicles including any relevant road markings and signs.
  6. Call your insurance company as soon as possible who will advise of how best to recover your vehicle and what to do next. Have your policy number to hand.
